Terrell Strategies looks for the WIN in every project we take on, and won't take on a project unless we believe we can win. Below is an example of our success in creating and executing successful public affairs strategies.
A proposed Walmart Neighborhood Market in the unincorporated community of Altadena, CA came under intense pressure from members of the elected neighborhood Town Council, which submitted recommendations to the Los Angeles County Supervisor.
The Town Council was threatening a moratorium on grocery retail over a certain size in Altadena, which would have impeded a proposed second store and been a black eye for the retailer.
Randy Terrell proposed a neighborhood job hiring event meant to shine the light on the over 100 jobs coming into this community. Working with the Foothill Workforce Development Board and a local prominent African American church, the downstairs would invite job seekers to learn about opportunities at the new store, while classes were held upstairs about applying and interviewing. Hundreds showed up--more than ever expected--and the reception was overwhelmingly positive.
With the benefit of the successful jobs event on our side, and after intense lobbying, when the moratorium came up for a vote, it was soundly defeated.
